_Playing my Part_

On a scented stage
In sandal wood garb A play was practised With players in style
For a swaying mob; I played my part.

Steps slipped
Music spilled Voices yelled Out of rhythm Out of tune Out of time.

Quietly, I withdrew
Watched the play Hastily improvised With a somebody Playing
my part In perfect ease.
