_Lethal Dose_

Intense Venom—in modicum
 Gushes past red blood obstacles, Bathing nerves to zap
the brain plum And racing to stop heart’s pulses.

Serpentine essence delivered
 To protect itself from danger; From dark crawler’s
fangs uncovered, To cause mortal wounds on stranger.

From modicum flows saving grace;
 Those drops of serpentine venom, Grow enzymes
to naught a blue face; Hence, by death’s door does life blossom.

From darkness comes wisdom and light,
 For, dark sense wins when bright one’s lost;
To know truth sublime, seek mind’s might; Beware of smiles that come with cost.
