_The Mute Rilke_

deep gold flushed leaves
feeding the mute Rilke his starved mythological eye the
night drizzle his endless hearing the pulsation in the symbols lost life after life
their interior distances remembered

the almond’s crisp immensity
within him always hears the stones singing the solitary
pit deliberate dauntless dirge his moment of arising

again
the extra-curricular burgeoning lulls within Eurydice the stone’s transparent
torso

the solid sagacity of his sounds
in flux ash flame survives the river’s speculation
through muscular thrush lyre

the sad sculpture
holds the selfless waves gathering Orpheus’ stillnesses the ultra
stone-head lantern
