 Daya Bhat writes poetry in English and Kannada and translates
books from Kannada to English. Her articles have appeared in _The Times of India_.
Apart from writing, her interests include painting and listening to Indian classical

_Nowhere to hide_

Bristles twirl and swirl in colour
 in brights, in dulls then in inevitable greys
there is grey so there is depth. Life stirs on my canvas colours flow from and to
me; finding me from beneath all colours I have donned… they bathe in my true colours
and trickle me on to the canvas drop by drop and in masterly strokes like no light
ever did they reveal shades of the hypocrite in me whose existence was my discovery
I stood exposed to the world and myself. Colours, they made me, they ask me “_Did
we paint you in the right colour?”_ My silence answers.
