_**About the Author**_
 Dilip M. Menon is a cultural historian of South Asia and
is currently a Professor of History and International Relations at the University
of Witwatersrand. He has written on literature and film, and his primary work deals
with knowledge from the global South and oceanic histories. His recent books include
the edited volumes _Cinemas of the Global South: Towards a Southern Aesthetics_ (
2024); _Ocean as Method: Thinking with the Maritime_ (2022); and _Capitalisms: Towards
a Global History_ (2020). His book _Blindness of Insight: Essays on Caste in Modern
India_ was published in a twentieth anniversary edition by Navayana in 2024. In 
2021, he was a recipient of the Falling Walls Foundation for Humanities and the 
Social Sciences for his work on theorizing the global South.
